World's Deepest Coiled Tubing Drilling
Our dual-purpose drilling fleet features our proprietary Coil Over Top Drive® design. These rigs offer Xtreme Drilling and Coil Services customers the flexibility to drill with jointed pipe or larger diameter coiled tubing, with a seamless interchange between systems that can take place in 1-2 minutes. As a result, operators can realize the advantages of coil drilling when conditions are appropriate.
COTD Design Eliminates Cranes
With our COTD design, the injector head used for coil drilling is incorporated into the rig. On our XDR 200 and XDR 300 rigs, it is integral to the mast, which tilts over the well for coiled tubing drilling. Our XDR 400 and XDR 500 rigs feature an injector head mounted on a hydraulic arm, which remains horizontal during jointed pipe drilling. To switch to coiled tubing drilling, the arm is centered over the well and the injector head is pinned to the mast.
These systems enable our rigs to support high-capacity injectors—with ratings up to 200,000 lbs—without an expensive and cumbersome crane.
Combine that industry-leading power with our large-capacity coiled tubing trailers, and the result is that Xtreme drills deeper with coiled tubing than anyone else in the world.
Safe and Rapid Coil Drilling
In 2008, our XDR 200DTPLUS rig—operating in the Waddell Ranch field in West Texas—drilled a well in 10.45 days, 5.05 days faster than the customer projected.
